Texas debt settlement comparison | Reviewed September 25, 2026
Texans comparing Freedom Debt Relief and JG Wentworth should check the percentage in each actual agreement. Freedom publishes 15% to 25%; JG Wentworth currently discloses 18% to 25%. We have reviewed Texas competitor contracts with 25% fees. Debt Redemption charges 15% of eligible enrolled consumer debt it resolves—40% less in provider fees than a 25% quote. Neither national range fixes an individual Texas price.
The Texas fee question in one table
| Provider | Public fee disclosure | The Texas quote to request |
| Freedom Debt Relief | 15% to 25% of enrolled debt; varies by residence and debt | Exact percentage, fee base, and separate account charges |
| JG Wentworth | 18% to 25% of enrolled debt; varies by state or debt load | Exact percentage, fee base, and separate account charges |
| Debt Redemption | 15% of eligible enrolled consumer debt resolved | Written 15% fee and the independent account schedule |
Competitor disclosures are their published program figures, checked September 25, 2026. They do not establish a single rate for all Texas applicants. Terms in the signed agreement control.
Why a national 15% to 25% range is not your Texas price
Several competitor agreements for Texas residents reviewed by Debt Redemption state a 25% settlement fee. Against those reviewed 25% quotes, our 15% provider fee is typically 40% lower. Some states restrict fee percentages; a multi-state 15% to 25% advertisement can reflect differing state rules, enrolled balances, and provider terms. It does not establish that a Texan will receive the 15% end of the range. Ask for the Texas agreement with its actual fee printed on it.
Texas law has several debt-management fee structures. For qualifying performance-based settlement fees under Texas Finance Code section 394.210(j), there is no fixed percentage ceiling, but the fee must be reasonable and cannot be collected until a creditor settlement agreement is reached and the consumer makes the first payment. Other Texas fee structures do have numerical limits.
The difference between a 15% and a 25% settlement fee
| Eligible debt resolved | Fee at 15% | Fee at 25% | Provider fee difference |
| $30,000 | $4,500 | $7,500 | $3,000 |
| $100,000 | $15,000 | $25,000 | $10,000 |
| $300,000 | $45,000 | $75,000 | $30,000 |
The 15% fee is 10 percentage points, or 40%, lower than a 25% fee on the same eligible enrolled balance resolved. These are provider settlement fees only, calculated as if the entire illustrated balance were settled. They exclude creditor payments, independent account charges, optional attorney fees, and tax consequences. Actual settlements and total program costs differ. The comparison does not mean either named competitor always charges 25% in Texas.
Freedom and JG Wentworth legal options and fee details
Freedom describes a Legal Partner Network included for qualifying clients who keep required deposits current. A network attorney may try to negotiate an enrolled debt after a lawsuit, but Freedom says that attorney does not represent the client in court or file papers.
JG Wentworth describes an optional plan through an outside law firm at a monthly cost. Ask for the law-firm agreement, covered work, exclusions, and price. JG’s site has also used 21% in a historical average-savings illustration; that number is not a universal Texas fee. Its current stated program-fee range is 18% to 25%.
Both companies use independent dedicated accounts and disclose charges separately from provider settlement fees. Debt Redemption uses Forth; get the current account agreement from every company before you compare overall costs.
Debt options designed around Texas residents
Debt Redemption is a veteran-owned Texas company with a current A+ Better Business Bureau rating. Its Debt Relief For Texans settlement program serves Texas residents, with a 15% performance fee earned only after an eligible debt is settled, the client approves it, and the client makes the required first creditor payment. A separate dedicated account is administered by Forth; obtain its current written fee schedule before enrollment.
A settlement program is only one path. We can help Texans explore an affiliate marketplace for debt consolidation loan offers, referrals to nonprofit credit counseling, and optional representation by independent Texas counsel under a separate agreement and fee. Upon request, we can also refer Texans to an experienced, highly rated independent Texas bankruptcy law firm to compare bankruptcy with nonbankruptcy choices. Lenders determine loan eligibility; independent lawyers provide legal advice and set their own fees. None of those third-party services is included in the 15% settlement fee.
What to request before choosing a company
- A written Texas fee percentage, how it is calculated, and the balances to which it applies.
- The independent account provider’s opening, monthly, payment, and other charges.
- The monthly deposit required, an estimate of timing, and the consequences of missed deposits.
- Any lawyer agreement, scope of lawsuit work, limitations, and separate legal fee.
